What happens when we step beyond the familiar structures of modern Paganism and look again at the older traditions preserved in folklore, folk magic and our relationship with the living land?

 

Ancient Signpost ~ Modern Path is an experiential introduction to the Old Ways of Britain - not an attempt to recreate a lost religion, but an exploration of what survives and how those fragments might become meaningful practice today.

 

The past provides the signposts; we still have to walk the path ourselves.

 

During this workshop you’ll discover where some of the familiar ideas of modern Paganism actually came from, separating older folklore and practice from much later additions. We'll then begin building a practice rooted in relationship, experience and the surviving traditions of these islands.

 

Together we'll explore:

 

🌀 The Old Ways beneath modern Paganism - looking at the origins of familiar Pagan ideas and discovering what the historical and folkloric record can tell us instead.

 

🌀 Magic, imagination and inner vision - practical exercises for developing the inner senses and learning to trust your own experience.

 

🌀 The Three Cauldrons - working with an early Irish image of three inner cauldrons as the inspiration for a contemporary practice of strengthening and balancing your own energetic system.

 

🌀 Meeting a Familiar Spirit - a guided visionary journey inspired by British familiar-spirit traditions, in which you'll explore a relationship with a familiar connected with your ancestral line.

 

🌀 Protecting the home - exploring British protective folk practice before making your own rowan house-protection charm to take home.

 

Throughout the workshop we'll be clear about what is historically documented, what can reasonably be inferred, and what has been reconstructed as contemporary practice.

 

You don't need to adopt a particular religion, worship particular gods or call yourself a Witch, Pagan or anything else.

 

The workshop begins at 10am and will finish around 4.30 to 5pm.

 

Please bring food to share at lunchtime. Hot drinks are provided during the day.

 

This one-day workshop is being held on Saturday 24th October 2026, and then the same workshop is repeated on Sunday 25th October 2026, at a private yurt in the village of Barton-le-Street, near Malton in North Yorkshire. Further details will be provided at the time of booking.

 

Cost for the workshop is £75.00 

 

There is a 10 participant limit for each workshop, so a £25 deposit will be required at the time of booking. The remainder can be paid on the day of the workshop.
